About the Author
Jim van der Keyl has been an animator for over 20 years and has wored for studios such as Dreamworks, Disney, Warner Bros and Blue Sky. He has also been a professional caricature artist for over 20 years working at theme parks such as Universal Studios, Hollywood, Six Flags Magic Mountain and at conventions and colleges throughout the US. He is a member of the International Society of Caricature Artists ( ISCA) Jim discovered caricatures in high school when he experimented drawing his teachers.. He was hooked on caricatures when his drawings received bouts of laughter and has been drawing them ever since.

One of the best books I've read on the subject

Jim's book is very professional and easy to follow, it teaches you different techniques to achieve the likeness and improve your caricature drawing skills. The book doesn't focus on one single method, but several ones, so that way you may choose which you like most and combine them to create amazing caricatures. I've been drawing caricatures for about 16 yrs. professionally and have drawn more than 10,000 faces by now, so I can tell you, this book is a must for your collection if you are serious in mastering the art of caricature.

This book is one of the best on caricatures. I have been buying books about caricatures for over 30 years. Most of them have the common ideas on drawing caricatures. I think Jim Vander key, has more ideas on doing caricatures. I think this would be a great purchase if you are interested in learning how to draw caricatures, or want to improve on drawing caricatures.

was well worth it, My caricatures have unbelieveably improved,For anyone wanting to be a
Caricaturist or just doodle around with a pencil or pen,please try Jim van der Keyl. Jim presents the

In Researching Entrepreneurship one of the most highly recognized entrepreneurship scholars shares in a personal and readable way his rich experience and ideas on how entrepreneurship can or should be researched. Numerous real examples accompany the treatment of problems and solutions concerning design, sampling, operationalization and analysis. Suggestions for further improvements are also provided.

While Researching Entrepreneurship is targeted primarily at research students and academics it is of interest also for those who have professional reasons to collect and analyze data from new and small firms, or assess the dynamism of the economy. For example, analysts in marketing research or consultancy firms, business associations, statistical agencies and other government offices may find this book to be a valuable tool. An highly informative and amusing read

A `How to' for Entrepreneurship research. The book provides a comprehensive treatment of entrepreneurship research methods - good, bad and ugly. It is surprisingly immensely readable, as the author notes, he wanted to retain the `individual voice' which the peer review process can remove. One warning though - this is one of those books that one should not read in public spaces, for the regular outbursts of laughter at the author's comments, will result in strange looks from bystanders!

An inspirational read for those `bogged down' in the researching mire.

Topics covered include entrepreneurship as a research domain, research design, sampling, survey reliability & validity, secondary data sets, dependent variables, replication and analysis methods.

A thought provoking book

Unlike other reviewers I found this to be a very interesting book and it appears that some of these reviewers were more interested in debunking Arthur Koestler by labelling him anti-semitic. He was himself of Ashkenazi Jewish descent and proud of it. His book quotes many sources and his thesis should not be dismissed out of hand. In itself it is of historical interest to learn of the Khazar empire that ruled for several hundred years and who were a power equal to the Byzantine empire and one that stopped the Muslim onslaught against Byzantium. I can strongly encourage others to read this book and make up their own mind.

Interesting Read

I also found this book to be quite informative and can understand that it may touch off a few issues. The interesting thing is that people would rather debunk something because of a belief system than actually READ and take to heart what the book has to reveal. It is well referenced and gives us much information concerning the issues we are facing today, how it is and will affect the world.

Historically, the information is all out there, published in various places. Arthur Koestler simply brought it all together and put it into comprehensive form. If this is why he is attacked, then it's a sad statement to the conditions we are living in today.

An excellent history of the Kazars, detailing the extraordinary power of this kingdom and its many influences. Having adopted Judaism in the 7th century the Kazars represent the true origins of the Ashkenazi Jews - a fact that many people will wish to suppress but which is powerfully proven by Koestler, himself an Ashkenazi Jew. The break up of the Kazar kingdom and the resulting waves of migration are explored in detail. A robustly researched and well documented history of a people whose origins are crucial to modern history.

Jewel Thomas began research for this book in 2003, meeting weekly with her source, Lillian Robinson (Aunt Jack), to learn more about the family's history. Jewel, born and raised in Herminie, Pennsylvania, has a master's degree in public policy and management from Carnegie-Mellon University. She believes that every family has a story that is worth telling.

Eleven Pounds was a beautifully written and inspiring account of a family overcoming a tremendous number of hardships in the early 1900's from discrimination to family tragedies. Jewel is very descriptive of the situations that this family has gone through, which makes it easy to empathize and bond with them. There is never a dull moment with the Pounds family, which makes this an especially enjoyable read. You will not regret buying this book, it is truly a wonderful read and contains lessons and laughs for every generation. It is sure to spark your interest in researching your own family history. This true story shows that you never know what you may come across.

My review is somewhat biased for I know most of the people in the story. I had a great nostalgic trip as I read. Jewel described the environment and the people very accurately and with intense feelings. This book was so interesting to me that I read it in less than one day. My grandparents operated a hotel in the building where the later dances were held. I have dear memories of many family events that took place in that building, and I went to school with a number of the people she described as partrons, or musicians, at those dances.

Being interested in the subject of genealogy, I purchased the book with great anticipation. The author has created an interesting and effective weaving of historical fact and plausible fiction. Both the style and subject matter make the book suitable for a wide audience. "Eleven Pounds: It Came to Pass" is an easy read: you won't need an unabridged volume of the Oxford English Dictionary as your tableside reading companion. The story also moves quickly as it gives details of the lives of the family members who constitute the book's eponymous title. A chief attribute of the book is that it has an almost universal appeal. Nearly all ethnic groups and cultures can relate to the themes of adaptibility, identity, acceptance, faith, hard work and perseverance that course through its pages. If the book manages to stir in its readers the same sentiment that stirred in me: a profound sense of appreciation for the lives and sacrifices of family members who came before, then it can be considered an important read that serves a marvelous purpose.

I wish such a resource were available to me 30 years ago...

Here’s the thing. If you were raised in Western, Judeo-Christian, or secular paradigm, it is very difficult to understand kuji. The only way to explore this topic is find a personal teacher or find something written by a Westerner who has gone through the process. In Kuji: A Spritual Practice, James Clum serves as a guide first and foremost. Starting with the historical roots of nomadic cultures and oral traditions, the author explains the origins of the practice (to the best of our present understanding). Once the groundwork is set, readers are prepared to journey into the interpretations, applications, and explanations of kuji.

One of the most satisfying elements of this text is it is written for both those interested in learning kuji, as well as those (like myself) who simply wish to better understand the subject. Within the pages you will find: what is the difference between kuji-kiri and kuji-in? Is this a Buddhist or secular practice? Do all Buddhists practice/believe in kuji? Is kuji sorcery, spell casting, or witchcraft? and much more.

In some martial arts circles, the kuji is a hotly debated topic. But most are spouting uninformed opinions. I'm happy to have found James Clum’s book. I can now safely ignore the preposterous claims made from uninformed armies of Internet trolls.

Whether your interest originates from martial arts, religious, academic, or cultural reasons, Kuji: A Spiritual Path is an outstanding resource. Clearly written, amply illustrated, and well presented, this is a must have addition to any library that covers these areas. I wish such a resource were available to me 30 years ago, but I am happy to accept this gift with enthusiasm. (And bonus points for all of the citations, for both written and for graphic/photo images. A+ on good ethics here).

I Learned of Kuji when living in Japan and my teacher showed me some of the basics. The author had exceptional rapports and I liked how he mentioned about aspects of learning when in debates. There is also an element to transfer certain knowledge in daily life. This reading was very pragmatic for me.

The book called to me, very insightful. I devoured its contents in a couple of days. I am reading over again at a slower pace and experimenting with some of the exercises in the book. The only drawback is the lack of clarity in the images that are depicted here to describe the mudras for which , I have had to research on the web and on YouTube for a more detailed set of instructions and information. It has fulfilled my expectations and desire for knowledge. If only i had found this information earlier when I was active Karate and Iaijutsu, I am certain that it would have added an incredible experience. I am practicing some of the exercises and rituals in this book but as with everything else, practice, honest intention and patience are the keys to everything in the universe. Looking forward for the other manual.
